On Wednesday Mayor Jenny Durkan and the Seattle Human Services Department (HSD) announced their recommendations for the recipients of $10.4 million in one-time investment funding to come from the $100 million pledged by Jenny Durkan to support Seattle’s BIPOC communities. The 33 organizations are working toward community-led solutions to end violence and increase safety in the city.

“By working together and deeply investing in community, Seattle can lead the way in building a new model for community safety,” said Mayor Durkan in a press release. 

According to HSD, the money is intended to support community-led solutions to violence, and expand recovery efforts to help those impacted. The request for proposal was launched in March of this year, and a panel reviewed over 70 applications. The 33 selected organizations will each receive between $123,068 and $585,410. 

The press release lists main points of emphasis on the selected activities including de-escalation support, case management, re-entry services and family support.

The funds are pending a final appeals process, which is set to conclude on July 27th. After that date, HSD will release additional program details and final investment amounts.
