6 Pride Month Events Happening In Seattle You Should Know About

Pride Month, celebrated every June, commemorates the Stonewall Riots of 1969, a pivotal event in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights. On June 28, 1969, police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in New York City, sparking spontaneous protests and clashes that lasted for days. These events galvanized the LGBTQ+ community and ignited a broader movement for civil rights. The first Pride March took place a year later in 1970, marking the anniversary of the Stonewall uprising. Over the decades, Pride Month has grown into a global celebration featuring parades, events, and activities that honor the history, achievements, and ongoing struggles of the LGBTQ+ community, promoting visibility, acceptance, and equality.

With Pride Month officially upon us, we wanted to give you 6 Pride events happening around Seattle this month you should know about:

June 8th, Black Trans Comedy Showcase at Siff Cinema Egyptian

About the event: Join us for another night of laughter, community, and resistance at Lavender Rights Project’s Black Trans Comedy Showcase 2024 fundraiser! As we begin to kick off this pride season, we are reminded of how acts of resistance have always existed alongside the joys of communion on this quest toward liberation.

Be with us on this night of conjuring joy, community building, and laughing until we cry (for good reason), all the while raising funds to secure housing, legal protections, and the overall well-being of Black trans life in Washington State and beyond! A delicious meal will be provided by a community catering favorite, raffle prizes, opportunities to interact with performers (bring yall’s tips!), and so much more! Last year's tickets sold out so…you know what to do!
