8 Seconds Juneteenth Rodeo: A Celebration of Black Cowboy Culture

This past Juneteenth weekend, the Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland, Oregon, was transformed into a vibrant hub of Black cowboy culture. The 8 Seconds Juneteenth Rodeo, a unique event that paid homage to the legacy of Black rodeo while showcasing the talents of today's cowboys and cowgirls, brought together the community for a weekend of thrilling competition, delicious food, and lively music

The rodeo featured some of the bravest riders and fiercest bulls in the country, all vying for a chance to win a share of the impressive $60,000 prize pool. Attendees were treated to an exhilarating display of skill and courage as cowboys and cowgirls competed in various events, including bull riding, bronc riding, and barrel racing.

Beyond the thrilling competitions, the 8 Seconds Juneteenth Rodeo also served as a platform to honor the often-overlooked contributions of Black cowboys to American Western heritage. The event paid tribute to the Black rodeo legends who paved the way for today's athletes, inspiring a new generation of cowboys and cowgirls to carry on the tradition.

Adding to the festive atmosphere was the live music provided by DJ OG One, who kept the energy high with a mix of classic and contemporary beats. Food vendors offered a variety of tasty treats, ensuring that attendees were well-fed and energized throughout the weekend.

The 8 Seconds Juneteenth Rodeo was more than just a sporting event; it was a celebration of Black culture, history, and community. By bringing together people from all walks of life to experience the thrill of rodeo and honor the legacy of Black cowboys, the event fostered a sense of unity and pride that will resonate long after the final bull was ridden.
