As local Seattle lawmakers celebrate Biden, will they continue to ignore Seattle’s Black Community?

Decade after decade liberal Democrats have overseen the rapid and constant decline of Black people in this city. Democrats have run City Hall for 30 years, by the time Governor Inslee’s term expires, Democrats will have been in the state house for four decades.

Our Democrat lawmakers speak with empathy but act with malice. We hear these words every election season, how you feel our pain, but it is the very same system that you the Democrats have, in many cases, weaponized against our community that causes the very pain that you claim to feel and understand. Democrats have a long timeline of working against the best interests of our community in Seattle from Operation Weed & Seed to the upzoning which is taxing our elders out of their homes.

You somehow always find the resources to treat the symptoms but never manage to find the courage to cure the disease.

So, I am sorry if I don’t join in the overwhelming jubilation at this historic moment. Unfortunately, history in our city has proven time and again that these momentous milestones continue to pass over the Black community in Seattle, and not only do things not change for us, they actually worsen. While others celebrate, we Black folks are still looking ahead to a ginormous income gap, a rapid decline in Black home ownership and generational wealth, and a school system that is failing our children.

To all of our elected officials who we see celebrating on social media about a projected Biden victory, ask yourselves what will your legacy as a lawmaker and as a Democrat be? Will you just be another one who watched the decline of Black people and culture in the Emerald City on your watch, while you praise the virtues of liberalism and turn a blind eye to our neighborhood? My challenge to you, Democrat lawmakers from the City, County, and Statehouse, “Keep that Same Energy” and finally make a difference in our community. I am keeping my eye on what happens in our neighborhoods even closer than what occurs in Washington, DC.
