Derek Liddell, a family member of Bill Wright and the President of the AP National Golf Club, spoke about the significance of the renaming, stating, "This is a historic renaming for a citizen of our city who was fighting against discrimination for all people, he was fighting for inclusion before inclusion was popular in 1947 so blacks and non-whites could have a chance to play the game that they love."

As I went in my career... how do I break barriers so the next engineers that come behind me don't have to fight to get their voice heard?"

I just had a sense of pride in our community."
