#BuildTheBeach - Groundbreaking Ceremony at Rainier Beach High School features special guests and celebration

The groundbreaking ceremony for the new Rainier Beach High School was a momentous occasion, with community and civic leaders speaking about the promise held in the project. It was truly special, as the project which has been years in the making took a major step towards completion. The new school promises state-of-the-art facilities for students in the Rainier Beach community, providing first-class resources for the next generation.

The ceremony was attended by Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell, NBA legend Jamal Crawford, Seattle City Councilman Girmay Zahilay, Seattle School Board Director Betty Patu, Coach Michael Bethea, current RBHS Principal Ivory Brooks and former Principal Dwane Chappelle, RBHS alumni Naj Ali as well as representatives from Lydig including Patrick McGloughlin, Israel Presley and Arlando Norwood. Presley and Norwood also hold the distinction of being RBHS alumni.

The groundbreaking itself marked the beginning of construction on the new school facilities, which come as part of the 2019 Building Excellence V Levy and a tremendous amount of advocacy from the RBHS community.

The project has also made a commitment to the community it serves, providing workshops, contracts and jobs to those interested. For more information on the community impact, you can click here.
