Doug Baldwin’s Family First Community Center is Making an Impact in the Renton Community
Seahawks legend Doug Baldwin continues to make a major impact in the greater Seattle community. Our Besa Gordon sat down with Baldwin at his Family First Community Center in Renton to hear about the exciting plans he has and the inspiration behind his decision to have it built.
“I’ve really felt like this community feels like home. It’s very similar to what I grew up in,” Baldwin said. “It’s been a part of my heart and a part of my identity and my heart since I got here in 2011.”
Baldwin said that the entire process of getting the community center up and running has been gratifying, and that the realities of the impacts he’s making are setting in over time.
“These families don’t know what it’s like to have a space where your kids can go and be safe and involved in a bunch of activities,” Baldwin said. “It’s special and I think we’re starting to see the start of how this is going to impact generations to come.”
Baldwin said one of his goals was to lower the barrier to entry as much as he could. One way he’s done that is by ensuring the use of the building is free to the community and by encouraging all to come out.
“We tried to stuff this building with as many resources as we could,” Baldwin said.
The space includes a gym, kitchen, maker space, basketball court, studio, health clinic and more.
