Inspired by the traditional fish houses of the South, Gethers' vision for the Hot Fish House was born out of his own experiences growing up in South Carolina. "I grew up in my grandmother's business," he shares. "She owned a small restaurant called Oakville Lunch, a lot of seafood, lot of pork. So it's down-home Southern Living."
This down-home feeling is evident in every aspect of the Hot Fish House, from the menu to the warm and welcoming atmosphere. The menu boasts Southern staples like catfish, po' boys, and turkey legs, all prepared with a focus on fresh, flavorful ingredients.
"Our number one selling item on the menu right now is the catfish plates, catfish, the turkey legs, those are our top selling items right now," says Gethers. But it's not just the food that keeps customers coming back. Sherrhonda Brown, the manager at Hot Fish House, emphasizes the importance of creating a welcoming environment. "I think I walk everybody to the door when they leave here," she says, "and that's from my Arkansas upbringing, you know, you walk folks to the door when they leave the house."
This commitment to hospitality, combined with the delicious food, has made the Hot Fish House a popular spot for locals and visitors alike. "We have a variety of clients that come in," says Brown. "All with Air Force, military, young, old, and, you know, I get down with all of them."
Gethers is also passionate about the importance of Black-owned businesses in the community. "The importance is, is we're at a point where we could reinvest, not only as entrepreneurs, but reinvest in the community," he states. "And that's what we're big on, is the people we hire that are transitioning through life, the people that, uh, that we bring on and just try to be impactful in other people's lives."
