Joyce's Market and Cafe Brings Scratch-Made Food to the Central District Community

Joyce's Market and Cafe serves and sells fresh, scratch-made food with a focus on community and health. Owner Joyce Hosea has focused on the culinary arts from a young age, attending culinary school and working towards her dream of providing the community with her food.

“I’ve always loved to cook and I’ve always wanted to have the base be from scratch,” Hosea said. “I can blame it on my mom handing me a bag of potatoes when I was nine and telling me to handle it, basically.”

Hosea continues to push herself in the kitchen and find new ways to bring flavor to the Central District. Her food interests started with her southern cooking roots, but have since expanded to include a variety of cuisines and diets.

“Knowing that all of these different communities can come together and share the foods that we love so much is amazing,” Hosea said. “Knowing that the community is diverse, I know that having a lot of types of foods can pull people in.”

Hosea also has a butcher's license and makes her own sausages, including Italian sausages, English bangers and more.

You can visit the shop from Tuesday - Saturday at 2715 E Union St, Seattle, WA 98122 and follow on Instagram @joycesmarketandcafe.
