King County Green Jobs Summit Connects Workforce, Industry Leaders

The first annual King County Green Jobs, Green Futures Summit took place at the Fremont Foundry on September 29th, bringing people from across Seattle together to explore the ways they can get involved with sustainability efforts and eco-friendly industries. The event featured a job showcase as well as a talent jam.

“We have the chance right now to catalyze energy, excitement and action for building a diverse and skilled workforce supported by strong, living-wage careers,” King County Green Jobs Project Manager Anoushka Adhav said.

For the companies present, the fair was an opportunity to highlight the changes they’re making within their industries and the ways they focus on sustainability through their work.

Bio Fiber Industries CTO Nahele Bailey said that for his company, showcasing their carbon-negative and natural construction materials was important. King County Green Jobs Manager Michael Carter added to that, saying that the day was all about creating opportunities.

“We’re changing the narrative around who gets to access the green economy and who gets to be a part of that movement,” Carter said.

There were students from Tyee and Garfield high schools present, as well as  workers and leaders. Adhav was proud of the turnout and excited that so many people of all ages wanted to be involved.

“We had a line out the block,” Adhav said. “A ton engagement from our youth.”
