Mariners drop series against Rangers as comeback attempt falls short

By Mathew Bermudez

Seattle, WA - The Seattle Mariners may have suffered a 4-3 loss to the Texas Rangers, but there is still plenty of positive optimism surrounding the team. Despite their recent struggles offensively, the Mariners have pitched extremely well throughout the homestand, with Luis Castillo leading the way, with the bullpen performing consistently well.

Marcus Semien led the way for the Rangers with a homer and two RBIs, while starting pitcher Dane Dunning allowed only two runs in six innings, helping the Rangers secure a 4-3 win over the Mariners. This victory marks the first series win for the Rangers in Seattle in almost four years, since May 2019.

The Mariners managed to score three runs, with J.P. Crawford scoring on an error in the first inning from a Ty France single to left field. Shortstop JP Crawford scored on a throwing error by Texas left fielder Robbie Grossman. Crawford’s also added an RBI single in the fifth, bringing home Julio Rodriguez for the score, as Crawford hustled to second and Kolten Wong to third. Jarred Kelenic tripled to left, with Jose Caballero scoring in the eighth inning. However, it wasn't enough to overcome the Rangers' strong performance.

Seattle Mariners manager Scott Servais was pleased with the effort of his team, stating, "We have pitched so well throughout the homestand and really today, even though Castillo ran into a little trouble in that one inning when the pitch count got up there, he gave us a chance, and our bullpen did the job again."

As the season progresses, the Mariners will need to find ways to generate more offense, but with the talent they have on the roster, there is no reason to believe that they can't turn things around. With a positive attitude and a relentless work ethic, the Mariners will continue to compete and fight for victories.
