Pro Se Potential, a Seattle-based non-profit organization dedicated to empowering underserved youth, recently held its annual Back to School Bowling Bash at Bowlero in Tukwila. This event, aimed at fostering community spirit and providing essential resources to families, was a resounding success.  

The bowling bash brought together students, parents, and community members for an evening of fun and connection. Attendees enjoyed bowling, food, and the opportunity to interact with one another in a relaxed and supportive environment.

A key highlight of the event was the distribution of backpacks filled with school supplies to students in need. This initiative aimed to alleviate the financial burden on families and ensure that every child is equipped for a successful academic year.  

Beyond the material support, the bowling bash was crucial in strengthening community ties. As Jahleel Vester, President of the Board of Directors, noted, "The most rewarding part about today's event was the feeling of knowing where it started. The room is packed with a bunch of kids with a bunch of families, and it actually took some time to get to know a lot of the people that were in there. It was awesome just to bowl alongside of some of the families and alongside of some of the kids, and just to see the joy on their faces."  

Executive Director De'Vonte' Parson emphasized the organization's commitment to providing fun and engaging activities that also give back to the community. He expressed his joy at seeing the smiles on the faces of the kids and parents and the connections they were making with one another. "We want to give back to the kids," he said. "You know, give them a mix of fun in community and giving back at the same time, which, you know, we don't see a lot of things like that happening in our culture. We want to make sure that that happens with us."  

Program Manager Ron Howell highlighted the importance of the event in bringing the community together. "It allows different people from ethnic backgrounds and cultures to come here, to be able to share the same space, to get along, and to receive support and services," he said. He also emphasized the organization's goal of teaching young people that seeking help is not a weakness but a smart and proactive approach to achieving their goals.  

Lexia Bolton, a student at Decatur High School, shared her enthusiasm for the event. "It means a lot, because I am meeting new friends," she said. "I can't wait to go to events like this every year, because, like, I like having fun. I like going bowling. I like doing activities with others I never met before."  

Parent Marquiesha Phillips echoed these sentiments, highlighting the event's impact on both children and parents. "It helps get the kids together. It helps the kids interact with other children," she said. "It also helps to get back to school supplies and backpacks as well, which was also very great for the community, for the kids, who helps with the parents that has a hardship with finances."  

The Back to School Bowling Bash is just one example of Pro Se Potential's ongoing efforts to support and uplift underserved youth. By creating opportunities for connection, learning, and growth, the organization is making a lasting impact on the lives of young people and their families.
