Rasheda Hatchett joins Trae Holiday to discuss the resilience of Black women
Rasheda Hatchett joined The Day With Trae to discuss Black History Month with a focus on the resilience of Black women.
"Black women are the most resilient creatures on the planet," Hatchett affirmed.
Hatchett mentioned that over time Black women have been so engulfed in the quest to provide support for everyone around them that their own welfare tends to be neglected.
"We have to get to a place where we look at Black women's resilience and say, you know, this is something I have, but it's also something that has to be cherished and respected and given the opportunity to be put down for a moment so that we are able to heal," Hatchett said. "I think that one of the big things that is hard for Black women is that we're not really sure if we can take our cape off."
Black women have long been a platform of nourishment to their families and communities.
"Black women have been that bridge, the pillar of strength; we've gotten our families, we've gotten our communities from A to B, and we've ensured that they haven't fallen into the things that lie underneath that they can't get out of without our help."
Disputing the ideology of Black women being so strong and needing no help, Hatchett pointed out three key areas women can be in control of to break the concept:
Make yourself a non-negotiable: "If you're not a non-negotiable, you're never going to be able to give and serve yourself in the way you should because you haven't prioritized you in order to make sure that you're taken care of."
2. Set boundaries: Your boundaries should be for yourself and not for other people. "Set clear boundaries on what you can do and what you can't do."
3. Release what no longer serves you: "If you found out that this relationship, friendship, business partnership, or habit that you have is not serving the woman who you desire to be, release it."
