Seattle City Council Seeks Replacement for Councilmember Morales

The Seattle City Council is looking for qualified candidates to fill the District 2 council seat, which will become vacant on January 6, 2025, due to Councilmember Tammy Morales' resignation.

Application Process

The application period opens on January 2, 2025, at 8:00 a.m. and closes on January 9, 2025, at 5:00 p.m.

To apply, you must submit a resume, cover letter, and completed financial interest statement form to the City Clerk by the deadline.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • U.S. citizenship

  • Qualified Washington State elector

  • Able to read and write English

  • Active registered Seattle voter for at least 120 days before filing the declaration of candidacy

Public Forum and Council Vote

A public forum will be held around January 21, 2025, to gather community input on the applicants.

The City Council will vote on the applicants on January 27, 2025. The successful candidate will need a simple majority of at least five votes to be appointed.

Additional Information

The appointed councilmember will serve until the results of the 2025 General Election are certified and the newly elected councilmember for District 2 takes office.
