Showdown on 23rd and Pike: Seattle Black Firefighters and New Property Owners
Below is the press release issued by the Seattle Black Fire Fighters Association prior to the press conference:
HISTORIC BLACK-OWNED PROPERTY ILLEGALLY SOLD!
A press conference will take place at 2302 East Pike Street, Seattle, Washington 98122, the Seattle Black Fire Fighters Association (SBFFA) House on Monday, December 23, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. The SBFFA House was purchased in the 1970's and was a hub for activism for many civil rights organizations. It is located in the heart of Seattle’s historically central district, which has lost much of its cultural heritage. This press conference is designed to raise awareness of this incredibly critical issue and ask the public to support our just cause.
See the original court documents here.
This press conference will explain how certain unscrupulous people, like Defendant Douglas Johnson, have illegally sold SBFFA’s House to greedy investors, Camila Borges, who is destroying and defacing the historic property for profit. Defendant Johnson and his ilk have apparently absconded and hidden approximately $680,000 room the illegal sale and illegally expelled founding members of the SBFFA in contempt of the court’s judgment. We have filed legal papers to rescind the sale of the SBFFA Houss, ensure the funds are not stolen, and transparent and light is shined on this matter. The court will have a public court hearing on this matter at January 8, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. in King County Superior Court in the case of Erwin Chappel et al. v. Douglas Johnson et al., Case No. 22-2-02416-0.
