South Sound Music Festival Celebrates Culture, Community in Tacoma

The South Sound community now has their own festival celebrating culture, music, and entrepreneurship. The South Sound Music Festival, which began last year, brings good music and festival vibes to the Tacoma area. The festival has grown in year two featuring vendors, food, a car show and of course music with headliners like Rayven Justice and DJ Boe Blast. This year’s festival was also slated to feature Juvenile, but that show will now take place on August 20th at the same location during South Sound Music Festival: Reloaded.

“We don’t have anything like this in the South Sound. There’s a lot of events going on up north, but we don’t have anything down here,” Media Coordinator Marvin Patterson said.

Patterson emphasized the family aspect of the festival, saying that it’s a great time for all and there’s something to do for those of all-ages.

“You see mom and dad with the kids out here. We really want it to be a community event,” Patterson said.

The event even featured youth vendors, including Dai’veon Laniar, the Founder of Gratitude Lemonade whose company sells custom flavored lemonade.

“I’m still trying to learn how to do this stuff right, but I’m getting better,” Laniar said.

Licensed Healer Carita Hall of the Holistic Coalition was present as well, showcasing her business and uplifting other Black-owned Businesses in the area.
