Acacia Corson started her company Badder Body after being frustrated with her hair, and when she spilled some product on her hands she realized she had discovered something even better. She new makes products like body butter, face masks and her husband even makes beard oil. That company led to partnerships with other beauty product makers like Soap’d by Fani and Kiara Hall. Realizing the potential that lay within those partnerships, Carson opened The Self Care Square, a retail space located in Belltown, with Seattle Restored.

“Seattle restored granted us this space, and now it’s very community centered. We do more than just sell products - it’s a self care community space,” Corson said. “Once I saw that the need is bigger than just products I opened it up to even more people. Now, the space is a community gathering point for Seattle’s Black community, providing a place to connect and share self-care tips and experiences.”

“We want to work to change to the community to be more focused on self-care,” Corson said. “Within the Black community especially we neglect ourselves in that area.”

Kiara Hall, who creates smoothies and other drinks with Sea Moss, agrees with Corson. As one of the vendors in the space she’s proud to be a part of making the community healthier.

“It’s wonderful,” Hall said. “There’s a lot of people who have become intrigued in what I’m doing since I’ve been here.”
