Trae Holiday Uplifts Federal Way Black Pioneers on Good Day Seattle

Trae Holiday, who is the current guest host of Back2Besa as well as host of her own show, The Day With Trae, joined Erin Mayovsky on the set of FOX 13’s Good Day Seattle this morning for a sneak preview of this weekend episode of Back2Besa in which TraeAnna highlighted a recent Black History Event celebrated in the City of Federal Way which acknowledged the city’s early Black pioneers.

The Federal Way Black Collective recently celebrated Black history in the city. The event was held separately from other Juneteenth events to give it the space and time it deserved. The organizers aimed to create an inclusive event where people from all walks of life could come together to celebrate, learn, and connect.

The event highlighted the contributions of the Conna family, one of the founding Black families in Federal Way. John Conna, a political activist and advocate for social and civil rights, acquired 160 acres of land in the city at a time when this was extremely difficult for Black people. He also fought for women's suffrage and improved infrastructure in the area.

The Federal Way Black Collective is a social justice organization that provides essential services to the community, particularly those facing hardship. The organization is made up of dedicated individuals who have witnessed the struggles faced by the Black community in Federal Way and are committed to making a difference.

The collective has been instrumental in advocating for positive change in the city. Their work has led to the elimination of programs that were ineffective or discriminatory. They continue to work tirelessly to ensure that Federal Way is a welcoming and equitable city for all.
