Trae Holiday's Mombasa Moments: Community, Culture, and Creativity
By Trae Holiday
What a full and phenomenal day this has been! I had the opportunity to connect with the Wakesho Community Organization, which empowers young women by teaching them valuable skills like sewing and soap-making. The organization also focuses on mental and personal development, fostering independence and self-sufficiency. Seeing their work firsthand was inspiring, as was meeting with the director, Peter Kamau Ngige, and his daughter. The organization's connection to the Seattle sister city program highlights the positive impact of global partnerships.
Later, I indulged in some self-care at an amazing salon in Mombasa, where I received top-notch service, including a head and neck massage, hair treatment, and styling.
I also explored more of the city, enjoying delicious food and the vibrant city life. In the evening, I visited Shirko Media (@ShirkoMedia), a renowned music producer, and was impressed by their dedication to showcasing Mombasa's musical talent. Their commitment to integrity and artistic excellence shines through in their work.
As my time in Mombasa comes to an end, I'm grateful for the connections I've made and the experiences I've had. From community initiatives to artistic endeavors, Mombasa has so much to offer. I'm particularly thankful for my hosts, Evans and Shirley, who have ensured that I fully experience the city's greatness.
Asante Sana Mombasa!
