Recently on The Day with Trae, Logic Amen, an Artist, advocate, writer, and educator, came to the Black Media Matters Studio to talk about the work and history of his organization, the Griot Party. The Griot Party, founded in 2016, is a 'hip hop spoken word storytelling theatre' and collective made up of storytellers and artists focused on community healing, which most recently invited attendees to partake in the 'The Griot Party Experience' at the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute this past January.

This Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Black Heritage Society of Washington State (BHS) and the Black Genealogy Research Group (BGRG) of Seattle will be hosting a workshop entitled "The Power of Black Narratives: Claiming Your Story" at 9:15 a.m. on the Garfield High School campus in the Central District of Seattle. Black Nativity Returns After A 10-Year Break

Last Thursday, our TraeAnna Holiday attended the opening night of Black Nativity presented by the Intiman Theater at the Broadway Performance Hall. After a decade-long hiatus, the return of Black Nativity has been one of the most highly anticipated productions this holiday season in Seattle’s Black community and beyond. The musical written by Langston Hughes was a tradition in the Emerald City for years and was anchored by the late Pat Wright, who was the founder of the Total Experience Gospel Choir, as well as the late Rev. Dr. Samuel B. McKinney, who was the pastor at Seattle’s Mout Zion Baptist Church for 40 years.
