PREVIEW This Week’s Episode of Back2Besa: From Dance and Wine to Sports, Resilience, and Soul

Back2Besa is back with another weekend full of stories that highlight culture, community, and resilience across the Pacific Northwest. This episode of Back2Besa takes viewers on a journey through powerful performances, heartfelt celebrations, and unforgettable moments that remind us why representation and connection matter.

Afro Dance Seattle at Cornish College of the Arts

The episode kicks off with pure joy and energy as Back2Besa heads to Cornish College of the Arts for Afro Dance Seattle’s summer camp. Led by Kiné Camara, the two and a half day camp brought together students and teachers from across the country. The final performance was not just about dance steps, it was about creating bonds, building confidence, and celebrating movement as a community.

WeRise Wines Ribbon Cutting & Sip & Mingle

Next, Back2Besa rewinds to the ribbon-cutting celebration at WeRise Wines in downtown Seattle. Founded by Jamila Conley, WeRise was created to shine a light on BIPOC and LGBTQ+ winemakers while building an inclusive space where everyone feels at home. Later in the episode, the story continues on the rooftop of The State Hotel where WeRise Wines hosted a Sip & Mingle that blended intentional pours with cultural connection. From a Black woman crafted Chardonnay out of South Africa to a stunning rooftop backdrop, the event was a reminder that wine tastes different when it comes with purpose.

Northwest Prospect Showcase at T-Mobile Park

The spotlight then shifts to sports as Baseball Beyond Borders, in partnership with the Mariners and Baseball Generations, hosted the Northwest Prospect Showcase. Forty student athletes from across the Northwest stepped onto the field at T-Mobile Park to show their skills in front of scouts. For many of these Black and Brown athletes, it was about more than baseball, it was about representation, access, and the power to dream bigger.

Lamont Williams’ Transplant Journey with LifeCenter Northwest

Episode 254 also shares the moving story of Lamont Williams, who was diagnosed with kidney disease at just 29. After years on dialysis, Lamont received a life saving kidney transplant just one day before becoming a father. His story, shared alongside his wife Felicia, highlights resilience, faith, and the impact of organ donation. Thanks to organizations like LifeCenter Northwest, lives like Lamont’s are saved every day, proving that one person’s choice can change everything.

Soul on the Water at Pier 62

Closing out the episode, Back2Besa takes viewers to Seattle’s waterfront for Africatown Community Land Trust’s Soul on the Water. Pier 62 came alive with music, dance, and art, from line dancing to live painting, to a performance by neo soul legend Bilal. It was a powerful celebration of Black presence and joy in a space where the community has not always been centered. The event not only honored Seattle’s history but also showcased the importance of creating visible and thriving cultural spaces today.
