SEATTLE, WA – A significant milestone in Seattle's waterfront revitalization is on the horizon as Pier 58 is slated to officially open to the public on Friday, July 25th. This highly anticipated reopening will contribute nearly 50,000 square feet of new park space to the ambitious 20-acre Waterfront Park project.

Mayor Bruce Harrell, alongside the City of Seattle's Office of the Waterfront, Civic Projects, and Sound Transit, made the announcement today, July 10th, highlighting the pier's role in the reimagined waterfront.

"Since 1974, Pier 58 once known as Waterfront Park - has been part of so many waterfront memories," stated Mayor Harrell. "Now, we celebrate its return as yet another incredible piece of our reimagined, expanded 20-acre Waterfront Park, and a one-of-a-kind play space for our kids! This new space promises a memorable experience for all, whether you call Seattle home or are visiting from afar. The redesigned Pier 58 honors our past and points to a future built on safe, welcoming, and accessible public space for all."

Originally opened in 1974 as 'Waterfront Park,' the historic Pier 58 is strategically located in the heart of the waterfront, nestled between Union and Pike streets and adjacent to the Seattle Aquarium. The new park features a captivating sea life-themed play area, boasting a 25-foot tall jellyfish-inspired climbing tower, an 18-foot tall slide, and various other interactive play elements. Designed with families in mind, the play area offers clear sightlines for parents and guardians, ample seating, and convenient access to a public restroom that opened in March.

Beyond the vibrant play area, Pier 58 also offers an elevated lawn providing expansive views of Elliott Bay, a serene tree grove for shade, and a flexible plaza space intended for activation by the Friends of Waterfront Park. Integrated architectural lighting throughout the play features, railings, grove, and seating areas enhances the overall park experience.

A free, family-friendly community celebration is scheduled for Friday, July 25th, between 4 PM and 8 PM, following an invite-only ribbon-cutting ceremony. Residents and visitors are encouraged to explore the new pier, enjoy the playground, and meet beloved local mascots. Marine-themed attire and costumes are encouraged for those attending the festivities.
