Project Girl: Empowering Young Women of Color in Seattle

Project Girl, founded by Olympia Edwards, is a mentoring program based in Lynwood, Washington, that provides a fun and interactive space for young women of color to learn and grow. The organization offers eight different programs, including after-school and summer programs, counseling, mentoring, and junior and senior programs.

Project Girl focuses on creating a luxurious and empowering environment for its participants, emphasizing that girls of color deserve the best. The organization relies on community support to keep its programs free for all participants. Donations, grants, and partnerships with local businesses play a crucial role in sustaining the organization's important work.

Dr. Margaret Towolawi, a physician and advocate for holistic health, is actively involved in Project Girl as a Board Member and workshop presenter. She recognizes the transformative power of mentorship and guidance for young people.

Recently Back2Besa contributor Kiesha Garrioson of Hey Black Seattle stopped by Project Girl to tell us all about it.
