Facing The Reign

Converge Media’s latest film, Facing the Reign, which premiered Sunday, August 25th, at 6 p.m. on FOX 13 Seattle, tells the inspiring story of Jessa Thomas, a 17-year-old cowgirl from Kittitas County, Washington. Jessa is the reigning Miss Teen Rodeo Washington 2024 and the first African American to hold this state title.


Jessa's passion for animals and the rodeo shines through in the film. A natural caregiver, she raises miniature Herefords and tends to livestock on her family's Windswept Farms. Her dream is to become a veterinarian, and her dedication to the equine world is truly remarkable.

As the first African American state title holder, Jessa is determined to use her platform to increase representation for diverse communities. Her platform, "Be YOU-tiful," encourages everyone to embrace their uniqueness and be proud of who they are. Jessa believes everyone should have the opportunity to experience the joy of rodeo and the supportive community that surrounds it.


Converge Media's commitment to sharing stories like Jessa's is evident in the film's powerful message of representation and empowerment. Facing the Reign, directed by Winfield Ezell Jr., whose other works include Converge Media films Sankofa Theater Inscape Finale as well as Reconciliation Tour, where Winfield earned an Emmy Nomination, not only celebrates Jessa's achievements but also inspires viewers to pursue their dreams, regardless of their background. The film also features Stephanie Johnson-Toliver, President of the Black Heritage Society of Washington State, who provides a historical perspective on Black cowboys and cowgirls in the Pacific Northwest.
