Music and Libretto by Richard Wagner
Accidentally, eternally, in love. A friend’s betrayal, passionate love, and some of the most seductive music in all of opera. Wagner’s epic composition reminds us that not even death can defeat love. When a love potion replaces poison, inducing irresistible obsession, Tristan and Isolde give in to their passions, but their happiness is short-lived when betrayal costs a life.
Continuing our longstanding tradition of imaginative Wagner productions, we are thrilled to showcase this revolutionary Wagner masterpiece with a production led by Argentinian stage director Marcelo Lombardero and the electrifying conductor Jordan de Souza that draws on the wealth of imaginative opera stagings being mounted throughout South America. “Vocal phenomenon” (Classiquenews.com) Mary Elizabeth Williams returns to McCaw Hall to make her role debut as Isolde alongside tenor Stefan Vinke “whose voice is unequalled” (Bachtrack) in the role of Tristan. The “spectacular” (The New York Times) Amber Wagner makes her Seattle Opera debut as Brangane.
