HADESTOWN COMING TO SEATTLE JULY 12-17
COME SEE HOW THE WORLD COULD BE.
Welcome to HADESTOWN, where a song can change your fate. Winner of eight 2019 Tony Awards® including Best Musical and the 2020 Grammy® Award for Best Musical Theater Album, this acclaimed new show from celebrated singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell and innovative director Rachel Chavkin (Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812) is a love story for today... and always.
HADESTOWN intertwines two mythic tales — that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone — as it invites you on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Mitchell’s beguiling melodies and Chavkin’s poetic imagination pit industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love. Performed by a vibrant ensemble of actors, dancers and singers, HADESTOWN is a haunting and hopeful theatrical experience that grabs you and never lets go.
FIRST THOUGHTS
Hear from Trae Holiday and Besa Gordon about what makes this show so special and why you should get out and experience it.
“I would recommend everybody go see Hadestown because I feel like each person that sees it will find something different that they can relate to, or they will simply gravitate to,” Gordon said.
“It was just a beautiful time all around,” Holiday said. “It was empowering that we could come from Seattle all the way to LA, and have such an impact.”

KIMBERLY MARABLE & KEVIN MORROW - “PERSEPHONE” AND “HADES”
“For me, it’s the first time in my career that I’ve been able to sing in the range that’s comfortable for me,” Morrow said. “It’s really cool.”
Morrow said the character of Hades is something dark and complex, an area he hasn’t really been able to explore in the past.
“Persephone really allows me to delve into the complexities of existing,” Marable said. “She’s a goddess and a queen, but she also has very real feelings about a lot of things.”

ANAIS MITCHELL - WRITER OF “HADESTOWN”
Anais said the musical had a long journey to Broadway. The show toured in many forms, from a studio recording to a radio-novella version.
“When I first started I was in my 20s,” Mitchell said. “I was an idealistic, creative young person coming up against the way the world is, which is the story of Orpheus.”
She says the show has taken on a life of it’s own and she’s humbled by the response to her art.

MORGAN SIOBHAN GREEN & NICHOLAS BARASCH - “EURYDICE” AND “ORPHEUS”
“We definitely embody our characters a lot,” Barasch said. Both he and Green say their off-stage presence mimics what viewers see during the show, adding an air of authenticity to this stunning production.
Green spoke to the process of keeping the energy pure while on tour.
“I’m learning self-care, and it’s a lot of socialization,” Green said. “There’s a danger to isolating yourself, but you also have to heal yourself. A show like this requires so much of your heart.”
LEVI KREIS - “HERMES”
Levi Kreis is Tony Award winning actor from Tennessee and spoke to Trae and Besa about what he brings to the role and his experience with the show.
“Not only is this in my world as someone who has been a singer-songwriter for years,” Kreis said. “The message of Hermes really spoke to me.”
He also spoke about the process of taking on such a storied role and project.
“A lot of my characters are things I’ve developed, people never know what’s going to hit next,” Kreis said. “This was an unconventional experience for me.”
