“Making Portland Home” The 9th Annual Mixer Was A Success

The Mixer powered by WKSocial was hosted in Portland, Oregon at The Evergreen PDX on December 27, the year-end social mixer allowed those in attendance to have conversations about navigating life, career, and business while networking with other Black professionals. With this years’ event mantra being “Making Portland Home”, the Portland Metropolitan area where people excel in business, work, and everyday life, the event did just that.

The sold-out was filled with beneficial information to be obtained and shared as the audience had the chance to hear from Executive Directors, CEO’s, Musicians, Founders, Reality TV stars, Sports Marketers.

Emmanuel Williams, Director of Economic Development for Black United Fund, expressed how important the mixer was for Portland, “a good connection with a bunch of black professionals here in Portland, having a panel with two Portland natives and hear them talk about their perspective on being in Portland. So, it was a really good night.”

DJ OG One, Official DJ for the Portland Trail Blazers attended the mixer for his first time last year and emphasized the important of gatherings such as these that exchange information and knowledge among professionals.

“A networking event that brings business professionals, people particularly people of color being together to just inform each other and help build each other up,” said OG One. “So these types of events allow me to connect with the people and find out what’s important to them and they find out what’s important for me and be able to exchange wisdom and knowledge to people.”

Lakayana Drury, Founder and Executive Director of Word Is Bond and Vice Chair of the Oregon Commission on Black Affairs has lived in Portland for eight years and on elaborated community importance.

“We got Black Portlanders that grew up here, we’ve got transplants, so this was a conversation and opportunity to build community,” said Drury. “I’ve been here for eight years, and I think what really makes Portland home for me is the community that I’ve built.”
