Back to School Backpack Giveaway set for August 20th

Tre Simmons and Emergency Feeding Program will be hosting a Back To School backpack and supply giveaway on August 20th at Garfield High School. They’ll welcome students from throughout the community to come get the gear they need to be successful in school this year.

The event will feature appearances from Simmons and Nate Robinson, as well as the UW basketball team and other local icons. There will be music, food and haircuts, as well as hygiene packs and Covid tests. In addition, a raffle will be held for shoes, clothes and more.

“It’s important for us to bring resources to the community,” Simmons said. “I’m really excited about what we have going on this year.”

Simmons has been hosting the event since 2010, and recently it has grown to a much larger scale, providing hundreds of backpacks and thousands of supplies to students in the area.

“It’s just cool to be able to help the kids,” Simmons said. “We’re looking forward to putting even more supplies into the hands of students.”

If you’re interested in attending, gates open at 12 pm and the event runs until 4 pm. Supplies will be handed out on a first-come first-serve basis.
