Beth Knox, Seattle Sports Commision President and CEO, Works to Create Memorable Experiences for Sports Fans in Seattle
Seattle Sports Commission President and CEO Beth Knox is one of many powerful women within the Seattle sports scene. In her role with the SSC, she works to create memorable experiences for sports fans in Seattle as well as support Seattle’s professional and amateur sports teams. She brings a wealth of experience and knowledge of the events space to her role with the commission.
“Growing up in a small community with a large family, events and celebrations were something that we did all the time,” Knox said. “One of my first jobs was with Seafair.”
The Seattle Sports Commission’s goals are to support Seattle’s sports scene, including professional and amateur teams, as well as bid on premier sporting events to bring them to the city such as the MLB All Star Game, the National Flag Football Gay Bowl, the NHL Winter Classic, World Cup games and more.
“The memories that those events create connect us in a special way that nothing else does,” Knox said. “I’m really looking forward to these events. When we’re able to host this many people, it brings a cultural vibrancy to the greater Seattle region.”
The SSC works to support those working every day in the city as well, including hosting a Women’s leadership breakfast which focuses on relevant topics to the community, such as gender and pay equity in the workplace.
“Seattle is really leading the way in the diversity of leadership in sports,” Knox said. “We have women CEO’s of the Storm and Mariners, majority owners who are women of the storm, the kraken and the Seahawks, the athletic directors at UW and SU are also women. I’m really proud to be part of that community.”
