Black Trans Comedy Showcase brings laughter and joy to the community

#PrideMonth - Saturday marked the Black Trans Comedy Showcase with special guest T.S. Madison. Hosted by the Lavender Rights Project, the event featured some spectacular Black Trans comics and brought the good vibes all night long. Our Art Queen Takiyah “TDub” Ward was there to take it all in and connect with community.

“It’s something where we can laugh together and bring joy back into our community,” Lavender Rights Project Director of Housing Ebo Barton said.

Ambassador Beyonce Nieves said she was excited to be there and to give back to the Lavender Rights Project.

“A lot of people feel like we’re disposable,” Nieves said. “I’m a human being and a person, and I love and believe just like you do. This is something magical and that’s why I’m here to show the world that we’re not going anywhere.”

Comedians included KJ Whitehead and Mx. Dahlia Belle, while Beyonce Black St. James performed a dance. LRP Development Director Randy Ford was present to spread the message of advocacy alongside the comedy show.

“We’re advocating for policy protections on the legislative level for the Black trans community,” Ford said. “We hope to get more people to connect with us.”

It was a night of joy and laughter as well a special night of advocacy which brought the community out to celebrate during Pride month. You can see more in the video.
