City announces community resources for upcoming heat wave

HEAT-WAVE-GRAPHIC.jpg

With a heat wave reaching nearly triple digits expected to hit Seattle this weekend, the city released new guidelines on how to stay cool. With many indoor spaces still closed or at limited capacity due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there are still many options for individuals needing a break from the heat.

The guidelines also include reminders:

·      Drink plenty of water. Have a beverage with you at all times, and sip or drink frequently. Don’t wait until you’re thirsty to drink.

·      Never leave infants or children in vehicles unattended – even with the windows rolled down. Temperatures rise quickly in vehicles, even when the outside temperature is 60 degrees a vehicles interior can easily heat up to 110 degrees.

·      Avoid strenuous outdoor activity

Cooling Spaces

Seattle Public Libraries are currently open during peak hours (10 am to 6 pm) at most branches Tuesday through Saturday. The city says they will provide air-conditioned space at 50% capacity. Masks are required for all patrons at all times. A full list of library locations and hours can be found at SPL.org
