Finding Go: The Legacy of Broderick Adé Hogue premiered on Thursday evening at the convocation event for the UNC Charlotte College of Arts and Architecture. The film honors the inspirational life of designer Adé Hogue, a groundbreaking letterer and graphic designer who was a featured designer in Converge’s film about Alaska Airlines’ Our Commitment aircraft last summer. Hogue created the lettering which adorns the side of the airplane, adding a striking message to a beautiful design.

“I am honored that we got to share a snapshot of our son’s life with everyone through the lens of this film,” Vanessa Hogue, Adé’s mother, said. “I am so overwhelmed & humbled by the love shown to myself, my family & for my beloved son Broderick.”

Hogue died in October of 2021 in a biking accident, but his legacy continues to inspire. The premiere was attended by family and friends from around the country including Hogue’s friends from Chicago, as well as students, faculty, and alumni from the college. Following the film, attendees were able to view the opening of three new art exhibits, including an exhibition of Hogue’s work which can be viewed in the photos below. The exhibit provided a retrospective of the work done by “one of the greatest letterers of our generation”, showing the diversity and innovation of his talent.

“Making this film was truly one of the greatest achievements in our company’s short history,” Converge Media CEO Omari Salisbury said. “It was an honor to be in space with the Hogue family for the premiere.”

The premiere was preceded by convocation speaker Dr. Sarah Elizabeth Lewis, an award-winning scholar, and writer and associate professor at Harvard University, who spoke about the importance of failure in creativity and the ways growth can occur through art and expression.

It was a truly inspirational night filled with laughter, tears, and most of all a message of hope that the future may be more beautiful. It is clear that Hogue’s legacy will continue to inspire both students at his Alma Mater as well as viewers around the world.

“I am more certain now than ever before that my son’s presence and the essence of his spirit is very much alive & active,” Vanessa Hogue said. “His legacy will live on in every story, every moment & every memory shared by all those that have ever encountered him & that alone brings me great joy and an even greater peace.”

“This film was truly a labor of love. I had the opportunity to meet Adé for just a few minutes, but the impact that he had was incredible,” Salisbury said. “We’re hopeful that this film will not only give insights on Adé’s life, but also will encourage people to support Adé’s scholarship fund.”
