From Slinging Tents to Grammy Events… Besa Gordon Named Newest Governor of PNW Recording Academy Chapter
Converge Media’s Pop Culture Queen Besa Gordon is continuing her meteoric rise within the music world. Just one year after being nominated for and joining the Recording Academy, Gordon is one of the chapter's newest governors.
“Honestly, I was pretty shocked,” Gordon said. “I’d only been there for like six, seven months and they already wanted to put me in this position. It’s eye-opening in terms of how much my opinion and ‘movement’ and things that I'm doing out here are being noticed.”
Gordon hosts Rewind with Besa on Converge and stays working hard and impacting radio not only with HITS 106.1 here in Seattle but also 102.3 The Beat in Austin and V101 in Sacramento. The chapter, which includes over 600 members, has only 20 governors. Gordon is honored to join their ranks. She’s excited about the opportunity to extend her reach and impact, and to continue to make a difference in her communities.
“I’m really excited to just get it more integrated into the local community,” Gordon said. “Yes, we have a recording academy, but a lot of people don’t really know this part of it.”
She plans to create events and panels for community members and artists where they can voice their experiences and ask questions. She’s also excited about the opportunity to honor various local organizations for their work.
“We have so many music programs out here which deserve recognition,” Gordon said.
Despite the promotion within the Academy, Gordon isn’t done yet. Her next goal is to become a voting member and have a voice in the Academy's most visible event, the Grammy Awards. She also plans to use her two nominations to add more community voices into the mix and continue to build an Academy for all.
