GuideStar: A New Artwork by Mendi + Keith Obadike Lights Up Seattle
Converge is excited to partner with Wa Na Wari to present GuideStar, a new artwork by Mendi + Keith Obadike, coming to Seattle's Space Needle on Friday, March 14th at 7:30 pm.
A Cosmic Spectacle
This mesmerizing artwork will feature over 30 laser beams radiating from the top of the Space Needle, accompanied by an ambient musical score. The result will be an immersive experience that transforms the Seattle skyline and invites viewers on a journey of cosmic exploration and wonder.
Inspiration and Artistry
GuideStar takes its inspiration from astronomical guide stars, laser systems used by observatories to create artificial stars for calibration and research. The installation reimagines the Space Needle as a celestial beacon, its laser beams painting the night sky with vibrant primary colors. The accompanying ambient music will create a multi-sensory experience that envelops the Space Needle and invites viewers to connect with the cosmos and each other.
Mendi + Keith Obadike, the acclaimed artists behind GuideStar, are known for their work exploring the interplay of art, technology, and culture. They hope that GuideStar will serve as a symbol of human connection, wonder, and discovery.
Free and Accessible
The event is free and open to the public, with the installation visible from various locations around the city. For those who want to be close to the action, Seattle Center's International Fountain Lawn will offer prime viewing. The audio will also be simulcast on the Converge Media platforms.
