The 9th annual Jackson Street Jazz Walk (JSJW) continued on Saturday, September 10th, 2022, commemorating the African American music legacy throughout the Central District community.  The twelve-band, seven-stage celebration commenced at 6:00 PM throughout multiple Central District venues, including the Liberty Bank Building, Pratt Fine Arts Center's Plaza, Cheeky Cafe, Wonder Bar & Restaurant, and the Jackson Apartments.

JSJW invited an eclectic mix of artists form the community, including Eugenie Jones, Alex Dugdale Fade Quartet, Jovino Santos Neto, The Peter Adams Quartet, Jennifer Mellish, Jeremy Shaskus Quartet, featuring Nathan Breedlove, Kim Maguire, The Jean Chaumont Group, Trifecta, The Tim Kennedy Trio, Good Company Trio with Butch Harrison, and Rik Wright’s Fundamental Focus.

The donation-based event also coincided with the Pratt Fine Art Center’s Open House, which featured an open house of live glassblowing. stone carving, painting, woodworking and blacksmithing.  The event also featured an array of food trucks, a beer garden, teaching artist demos, and interactive games and prizes.  All donations were geared toward support of future JSJW events, as well as to raise funds for the NW Harvest Food Bank.

During its two-day celebration, the Jackson Street Jazz Walk paid homage and exhibited a necessary proclamation to the Central District’s rich artistic, cultural, and social contributions.  And in doing so, they have reaffirmed its necessary fixture in our lived experience, both in Seattle and in contemporary America.
