Kremwerk Creates Space for Seattle’s Queer Community

As Pride month comes to an end, Our Art Queen Takiyah Ward checks in one more time to highlight Kremwerk, a Trans-owned nightclub in the heart of Seattle. Owned by Nicole Stone, the club is breaking barriers and becoming one of the Emerald City’s go-to spots for nightlife.

“We’ve been around for nine years, and we hope to be around for another nine years,” Stone said.

Scott Plusquellec, Seattle’s Nightlife Business Advocate, says music and clubs are forces for connection and belonging, especially among the Queer community that Kremwerk serves.

“We have so many things that bring people in, but music has been a driver of that for so long. Nightlife is such an important part of that,” Plusquellec said. “As a Queer man myself, when I moved to the city I immediately found out where the gay bars were because I needed that family.”

Stone is proud of the space Kremwerk has become, saying that creating a space where all are welcome is something she focuses on heavily on.

“It’s not just a drag show, it’s a community,” Drag Queen Killer Bunny said. “Drag really helped me discover myself, and Kremwerk makes me feel very welcome.”

For Ward, telling this story was a powerful experience.

“Making my production debut was very exciting. I’m very happy with the outcome and looking forward to working on more things,” Ward said. “Everything is art for me - I’m having a lot of fun working in media lately and I’m so happy Converge has created an opportunity for me to learn and explore.”
