Macklemore on addiction, redemption, and loss at the Hometown Heroes Awards

Sometimes we forget that addiction has a face and a name. So many in our community and across our country struggle daily with addiction and become anonymous and faceless. In a city that can be so giving when it wants to be, far too often we do not have a willingness to extend humanity to those who need it most.

Thank you, Macklemore for sharing not only your personal story with addiction but also how even today those around you still struggle, often times daily. Thank you for the reminding us to carry ourselves with compassion and continue to make efforts to provide support to those who need it.

You can watch Macklemore’s powerful speech from King County Councilmember Girmay Zahilay’s Hometown Hero lunch above.
