Mixing Houston Roots With His Seattle Style
By RayJaun Stelly
Opening his club to the Seattle nightlife in October of last year with the slogan “OHM is home,” Jordan Quiller has brought his Houston, Texas, roots and mixed them with his Seattle style. The two mixtures have rewarded him with one of the best nightclubs here. Quiller has hosted big artists such as Veeze, Anycia, 03 Greedo, Real Boston Richie, Bino Rideaux, Jay Critch, and Bryson Tiller throughout his first year of opening.
“Owning my own club is crucial because it gives me a platform to curate experiences and bring people together through music,” said Quiller. “It’s not just about my DJing; it's about creating a space where other artists can also showcase their talents and connect with the community.”
Although he owns a nightclub, Jordan wears another hat as well: being a DJ. His love for music comes from being an observant adolescent.
Quiller expressed, “I fell in love with music when I was just a kid, whether it was in the back of my dad’s car or simply watching movies such as ‘The Temptations’ and ‘The Five Heartbeats.’ The rhythm, the beats, and the way music could instantly change my mood hooked me from the start.”
From his early youth until the present day, Jordan has worked day in and day out on his craft. Utilizing his gift and DJing at other clubs throughout the state, he built a name and traction for himself. Wherever he was DJing—whether he was the opening act or closing—the audience followed. With a unique style that takes those in attendance on a journey through music for a few hours, he has made Seattle nightlife vibrant once again.
Understanding the importance of diverse backgrounds, Jordan has managed to keep that in mind during his mixes.
“What separates me from other DJs is my ability to blend different genres seamlessly and my deep understanding of the cultural influences from the South and here on the West Coast,” said Quiller. “My sets are not just about playing the most popular songs everyone is accustomed to, but about creating a journey for the audience.”
“The message I’m trying to convey when DJing is one of unity and celebration. I want people to feel the connection through music, forget their worries, and just enjoy the moment. Music is a universal language, and I aim to communicate joy and togetherness through my sets.”
Afrobeats, Amapiano, Hip-Hop, and R&B are all genres you can hear at OHM Nightclub. Whenever Jordan is DJing, his appreciation for all forms of music has translated into the continued success he experiences each and every week. From after-parties with nationally recognized artists to celebrating Nigerian Independence, Fusion Fridays with free entry, and collaborations with other DJs—whether local or from out of state—Jordan Quiller's impact on the music scene here in Washington has significant value.
“Incorporating my Houston roots with the Seattle style involves blending the big records you’d hear in the South,” said Quiller. “I aim to create a feeling or experience for people here who have never experienced nightlife in cities across the South.”
