Paddle To Muckleshoot 2023 Marks Return of Classic Canoe Event
The Paddle To Muckleshoot has been underway for the past two weeks as tribes from around Washington State come together to honor the past and celebrate the present of the first time since 2019. They paddled the canoes from Lummi in Bellingham to Alki Beach in Seattle, stopping at Sammish, Swinomish, Tulalip and Suquamish along the way.
The yearly tradition has become one of the most well-known and anticipated events on the tribal calendar, and despite a three year break due to COVID has returned in full force. This year is the first since 2006 that the Muckleshoot people have hosted.
Seattle photographer Jordan Somers was at the Alki landing to capture the scenes, and our film crew was there as well.
