People's March At Cal Anderson Park Through The Lens of Susan Fried

Thousands gathered at Cal Anderson Park on Saturday, January 18th, 2025, for the People's March - Putting the Unity Back in Community, just days before Donald Trump's inauguration as the 47th President of the United States.

The rally preceding the march featured speeches from representatives of vulnerable communities potentially impacted by Trump's proposed policies. Speakers included Sheley Secrest, President of the Regional NAACP; Malou Chavez, Executive Director of Northwest Immigration Rights Project; Monique "Muffie" Mousseau, 2SLGBTQ and Olaga Lakota advocate and activist; and Vanessa Torres Hernandez, Integrated Advocacy Director at the ACLU of Washington. Newly elected Washington State Governor Bob Ferguson, Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, and State Senator Rebecca Saldaña also addressed the crowd.

The march, hosted by the Seattle Women's March in partnership with organizations serving vulnerable communities, proceeded from Cal Anderson Park to Seattle Center. Organizers aimed to build community, amplify voices, and promote collective liberation in the face of impending policy changes.
