PHOTOS: Gathering At Westlake Park Marks One Year Anniversary of the Killing of Mahsa Amini in Iran

Over one hundred people gathered at Westlake park on September 16th, the one year anniversary of the killing of Mahsa Amini, a 22 year old Kurdish Iranian woman. She died in police custody after being arrested for allegedly violating a law mandating that women in Iran wear headscarfs. Her death sparked a movement in Iran and around the world for women’s rights.

Chanting “Women, Life, Freedom”, the rally participants vowed to continue to fight for equal rights for women everywhere.

The organizers read a proclamation from Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell designating September 16, 2023 Mahsa Amini Day and urging Seattle “residents and neighbors to stand united in solidarity with women fighting for their fundamental human rights.”

Similar rallies were held in other US cities and around the world.
