PHOTOS: Pitching Hope: Rainier Playfield's Resurgence in South Seattle

In July of last year, during All-Star Week, MLB Commissioner Manfred, Mayor Harrell, and the Mariners made a commitment to revamp Rainier Playfield into a cutting-edge facility, guaranteeing year-round baseball opportunities for the youth of South Seattle. This past Saturday, that commitment materialized into reality as Rainier Playfield revealed its impressive new features, including state-of-the-art turf and adjustable base settings. The ribbon-cutting ceremony, which was also attended by our very own Besa Gordon, marked a joyous occasion, with local Little League teams parading alongside beloved mascots such as the Mariners Moose and Edgar Martinez.

For those involved with Back2Besa, this moment held profound significance as memories intertwined with Rainier Playfield's storied past. Once neglected, the field now stands as a beacon of hope for South Seattle's youth, providing exceptional facilities for skill development and fostering camaraderie.

The success of this project underscores the power of collaboration, with MLB, the City of Seattle Mayor’s Office, Seattle Parks & Recreation, Rainier District Little League, Franklin High School, and local businesses joining forces. As Rainier Playfield reopens its gates, it serves as a testament to resilience and community spirit, ensuring that future generations can partake in the cherished tradition of baseball in South Seattle's heart.
