In this inspiring episode of Back2Besa, guest host Curtis Delgardo II takes us on a journey through Seattle, highlighting organizations and individuals dedicated to empowering the city's youth. Earlier today, Curtis stopped by Good Day Seattle to share a preview of his Champ Boxing Gym segment with Erin Mayovsky, where he talked about the importance of youth mentorship.
This week’s episode is called “The Youth Right Now Are The Truth Right Now” and when asked what this week’s episode is about, Delgardo said “Yeah. I mean, the title speaks for itself. This week, we focus on the empowerment and uplift of the youth and young adults here in the city, and the businesses and organizations that support that.”
When it comes to working with the youth, Delgardo said, “It makes me feel great, honestly, because it's like my chance to give back to the community, like people in the community gave back to me. So it's like, I feel like I'm fulfilling my duties here.”
In addition to Champ Boxing gym, this week, we visit Fremont Fridays, where GZ Radio has created an all-ages stage, providing a platform for young artists and creators to showcase their talents. This space allows youth to participate in the creative economy and share their music and art with the community.
We also join the fun at the Big Day of Play, an annual event hosted by Seattle Parks and Recreation that celebrates the city's diverse community. With live music, food trucks, and a wide range of activities, this inclusive gathering fosters a sense of belonging and shared experiences for people of all ages and abilities.
Then, we head to Panther Lake Elementary in Federal Way to learn about the Unstoppable Coaching Program, a partnership with the Black Equality Coalition. Through activities like Career Days, Art Therapy, and Healing Circles, this program is shaping young minds for success and empowering students to overcome challenges.
Finally, we get an exclusive look at Paradice Avenue Souf, a South End fashion brand run by Ari and Harry. Their newly renovated storefront and fresh designs are a testament to their dedication to both style and community.
As a bonus, Curtis shares his personal HBCU journey and highlights Alaska Airlines' commitment to the United Negro College Fund. Through the "Our Commitment" program, Alaska Airlines is helping high school students explore college opportunities and discover the transformative power of HBCUs.
This episode is packed with inspiring stories of positive change and community empowerment. Tune in to Back2Besa to see how Seattle is investing in its youth and building a brighter future for all this Saturday at 10:30 pm on FOX 13 Seattle, and see the replay Sunday at 10 am on FOX 13+
