Thursday at 5:30 pm | Community Voices to feature a look at the dangers of Menthol Tobacco products

Tune in Thursday night at 5:30 pm on all Converge Media platforms for a brand new edition of Community Voices discussing the impacts of menthol tobacco on the Black community.

56% of Black smokers in Washington State smoke menthol cigarettes, which are often perceived as better than regular cigarettes, but are far more addictive. This is primarily a result of what studies show has been more than 60 years of manipulative targeting from the tobacco industry. In fact, stores in predominantly Black neighborhoods are ten times more likely to display tobacco ads than areas with fewer Black residents.

So let’s talk about it. Community Voices is airing on June 29 at 5:30pm to discuss menthol tobacco’s impact on the health and wellbeing of our community. Inspired by the Washington State Department of Health’s (DOH) They Think They Know You campaign, the program is part of a larger effort to shed light on the tobacco industry.

Distinguished panelists include local health and research experts, a representative from the DOH, a real community member impacted by menthol tobacco, and you. Audiences across Converge Media’s streaming platforms can participate in the show by submitting comments and questions that will be read live and addressed by our panelists.
