Rise Above releases new short film in partnership with Converge Media

The film, produced and hosted by Tarrell Forest-Parramore, AKA ProofNThePlay, documents Rise Above’s health and wellness weekend in Spokane with Danny Glover, Lenny Wilkens and more

In July, Rise Above hosted their second annual health and wellness weekend in Spokane, Washington. The organization hosted hundreds of youth to play sports, learn about health and wellness, and hear from a variety of speakers. Rise Above, founded by Jaci McCormack, focuses on providing opportunities and education for Native youth. McCormack hopes that through exposure to sports and opportunities for growth, kids will gain skills which will positively impact them for the rest of their lives.

“Our kids are at the top of our pyramid, everything that we do is with kids in mind. For us, getting back into the community, giving a platform for kids, giving them an opportunity,” Rise Above Founder and CEO Jaci McCormack said. “That is where my passion is - creating spaces for them to dream big dreams.”

The film was created by Converge Media, which sent a crew down to Spokane to capture the event. Hosted and Produced by ProofNThePlay, it takes viewers on a journey through the experience and features Danny Glover, Lenny Wilkens, Bump Wills and more.

It also marks a milestone in Proof’s career. In addition to hosting, he took on the role of executive producer - ensuring a smooth production and coordinating with all parties to tell the story of the weekend.

“I think seeing the impact they had on the kids, it just makes me feel like anything is possible. As long as we allow them to get encouragement, and know that even though life is going to hit you in some kind of way, they can learn how to make great decisions,” Executive Producer and Host ProofNThePlay said. “This makes me feel like I can still be a kid again and still dream and go after it.”
