#Back2Besa - Zion Montgomery Showcases his Spoken Word, Secrets to Self-Confidence

Meet 13-year-old Zion Montgomery, a spoken word artist out of Seattle who is inspiring audiences with each performance. Each year, Seattle Theatre Group produces Elevate, a premier spoken word event highlighting some of the areas top up and coming young artists. Montgomery was one of the featured artists this year and is in his first year being part of the program. We caught up with Zion to ask him how he mentally prepares for performances. Plus, advice for those who might be a bit shy to get on stage.

“Be yourself and do whatever you want to do,” Montgomery said. “Be confident. Once you get onstage, don’t psych yourself out. Just smile and know everything’s going to be fine.”

You can learn more about Elevate through Seattle Theatre Group over at STGpresents.org. Several of the spoken word artists, including Zion, will be performing at the annual THING festival in Port Townsend the last weekend of August.

Make sure to tune into Back2Besa every Saturday at 10:30 pm on Seattle’s FOX 13 and stream the replay Sunday at 10:00 am on FOX 13+.
