Seattle Parks and Recreation's Big Day of Play, a free event in Southeast Seattle, celebrated diversity, community, and recreation. It showcased the services offered by Seattle Parks and provided a platform for residents to connect with staff and each other.

Deputy Director Lakema Bell highlighted the event as the "most diverse special event" the department offers, intentionally located in one of Seattle's most diverse neighborhoods. Environmental Engagement Director Chukundi Salisbury emphasized the event's role in showcasing the breadth of Parks and Recreation's offerings.

Community Engagement Coordinator Deja'Nay Gilliam emphasized the interactive nature of the event, with vendors and organizations offering engaging activities rather than just providing information. The event brought joy to attendees, especially children, and strengthened community connections.

Food, Fitness, and Careers Exploration Coordinator Samuel Chesneau found the most rewarding aspect was the positive impact on attendees and colleagues. The event catered to all ages and abilities, offering over 60 booths with activities, live performances, and a block party, making it a day of fun and recreation for everyone.
