DESC HOLDS OPEN HOUSE ON SEPT. 25 TO SHARE SUPPORTIVE HOUSING PLANS

The public is invited to join DESC staff on Wednesday, Sept. 25, from 6-7 p.m., in the Capitol Hill Meeting Room, Capitol Hill Library, 425 Harvard Ave E., Seattle, for an informational open house. The agency will share more details and answer questions about its plans for 1727, 1733 and 1737 Belmont Ave., Seattle. DESC is seeking funding from the City of Seattle Office of Housing and other public funders to replace existing buildings with a new affordable housing development, with construction to start in late summer of 2025, and completion projected for late 2026. It will include 120 studio apartments, wraparound supportive services and indoor/outdoor community spaces for the tenants, single adults who are living with disabilities and who have been experiencing long-term homelessness. Designed and built by award-winning architects and contractors, featuring thoughtful landscaping and staffed 24/7, this new building will provide permanent homes and dignity to people who were living on the street. DESC closed on the property on July 19. The agency will own and operate the facility. Founded 45 years ago, DESC implements innovative and cost-effective strategies to end homelessness, from housing, behavioral health care, crisis intervention and emergency housing and shelter, to outreach and employment services. DESC pioneered permanent supportive housing (PSH) in 1994 and provides stable, secure homes for thousands of individuals in 17 supportive apartment buildings. PSH combines affordable housing with essential services like medical, behavioral and mental health care and supportive services to help tenants retain their housing and increase their opportunities for success. Learn more about DESC at www.desc.org or visit the Belmont project web page to see a map of the location and links to a feedback form.
