What it took to win Queer rights and stop the homophobes
Visit MOHAI’s “50 Years of Seattle Pride: Posters of Pride.” The exhibit illustrates the unlikely, outrageous coalitions that united the Queer movement to confront AIDS and defeat homophobic ballot initiatives. Chris Smith and Su Docekal, both radical leaders and pride organizers with Seattle’s Freedom Day Committee, will share stories of the rough and tumble debates over race, abortion and trans inclusion -- as well as inspiring moments of unity and bravery the exhibit depicts. The pride posters on display are from Chris Smith’s collection.

Adding to the experience, attendees can enjoy light snacks and refreshments throughout the evening, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all.
Participant Artist Gary Nelson has said, “The joy of just being able to let it out—to belt it out in community was good for my overall well-being, my mental status. Everyone was there just to express themselves and to be themselves.” Our mission is for everyone to feel confident in expressing themselves—and we hope you all join us for this lively and joyful event.
