Aviona Rodriguez Brown joins The Day With Trae

Trae Holiday connected with Aviona Rodriguez Brown to talk about her business, Avion - A Flight Towards Dreams Consulting, and the work she’s doing in the community with The Covenant. Her consulting company works with small businesses and non-profits to bridge the gap between the company/organization and the community at large, ensuring needs are met and community impact is fully realized.

“It’s important for us to reach everyone across the region of the greater Seattle area because we all have these different experiences,” Brown said. “There’s not one fix that’s going to be able to reach every single community and there’s not just one fix.”

One organization Brown and her company have been working with is The Covenant.

“The Covenant is a group of people within the community who simply believe we can do better,” Brown said. “We’re all bringing our different tools and backgrounds to the table.”

The first issue The Covenant is working on is gun violence, and Brown says that the most effective way to combat this issue is through the sharing of personal stories.

“I had gang violence on both sides of my family, my grandfather had guns under every bed,” Brown said. “I remember growing up in the CD and not being able to go hang out on Union, or go hang out in the front yard. We understand as a community it’s up to us to step up.”

Brown said her and others are working “to be better together” and trying to find ways to bring more community members in and build momentum behind the work. They will have a showcase at the MLK Day march at Garfield on January 16th where people can learn more about the principals of the organization.
